Full time with benefits. Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., M-F; Saturdays depending on the season and workload. Time and one half is paid after forty (40) hours. Seeking a self-motivated individual with strong work ethic and positive attitude to join our horticulture department. Responsibilities include Land and Resource Management including coordination of composting, cover crop rotations, soil and water conservation practices, chemical and amendment applications, overall grounds maintenance, equipment utilized for farming activities, winter harvest operation which includes shipping responsibilities. Requirements: B.S. in Horticulture, Fruit Science, Agronomy, Soil Science or related education/experience. Candidates should possess a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record, an Oregon Pesticide Applicator License, computer skills, GIS capabilities, knowledge and experience with machinery and strong organizational skills. Nurture and grow your future in horticulture by becoming a Carlton Plants intern. Carlton Plants, a wholesale grower of bareroot shade, ornamental and flowering trees, shrubs and rootstocks, offers a 12-week paid internship program. Available spring and summer, the program is designed to provide professional education and hands on experience to college students. The internship program is most applicable to majors in Horticulture, Botany, Plant Pathology, Crop and Soil Sciences and Agricultural Education. This is real world, on the job training that includes exposure to all phases of bareroot production, from tiny TC plantlets to air-pruning flats in the greenhouses to lush vigorous trees and shrubs in the growing blocks. Interns see firsthand innovations in irrigation technology, mechanization, cultural and conservation practices, all of which are vital components of the growing system. Northwest Oregon is a wonderful place to spend a few months and provides a unique environment to apply the knowledge gleaned from the classroom. Weekends may be used to enjoy the fabulous recreational opportunities throughout the Pacific Northwest.
