Carlton Plants offers a wide selection of whips, branched trees and a broad line of specialty ornamentals. To accommodate a need for smaller yards or landscapes, we have added many listings to our catalog. We also offer a selection of trees with unusual bark and unique upright or weeping forms. We have spent years refining our undercutting program and now offer more than 75 of these varieties. Popular species such as Crataegus, Celtis, Carpinus, Cercis, Pyrus and Quercus not only transplant better after undercutting, but perform better as well.
At the same time that Yosemite was becoming a National Park, Carlton Plants began growing fruit trees for the commercial orchardist. Today, we offer a full range of fruit trees - apricots, apples, cherries, pears, peaches, prunes, plums, nectarines and orchards nuts. Most fruit varieties are virus certified. We verify that our plants are of good health and free of disease through both our own heat treating lab and our participation in the state certification program. As a customer you can be assured you have purchased a tree free of viruses.

Vines can sometimes seem to be a minor part of a landscape, but in fact are an important structural element. Their versatility and range of use is remarkable. Without taking up much space, they can soften an entire building, control erosion on a steep bank, or cover an unattractive area. In addition, they offer beautiful flowers in many colors and fragrances. Leaf textures, berries for birds and spectacular fall color are just a few of the attributes vines have to offer. Take a look at our increasingly diverse and ever growing list of hardy vines.
Rootstocks & Liners
We believe that choosing the proper rootstock is as important as choosing the variety itself. Rootstock choice controls characteristics such as size, cold hardiness, disease resistance and fruit production. Because we have been in the business of growing trees since 1890, we understand the importance of top quality rootstocks. That's why our rootstocks are carefully graded for size, root development and straightness - and why most of our rootstocks are virus certified. Tried and tested over generations, our selections include apple, pear, cherry and plum along with assorted shrub and shade trees.
